“The Buck Stops Here”

  • Harry S Truman

American Civics American indignation towards Washington is indeed understandable……..

  • More young people think UFO’s exist than think they’re going to collect social security when they retire.
  • More people would rather have their wallet or purse stolen than be audited by the IRS.

But we’re not as informed about our Government as you might think.

  • More people can name the three stooges than name three justices on the Supreme Court (and the Three Stooges have been dead for decades).
  • Fewer than half of all Americans can name all three branches of the federal government.

This is why never in modern times have so many promised so much and delivered so little. (more…)

Rebuilding Corporate America

“We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten. Don’t let yourself be lulled into inaction.”

-Bill Gates

Rebuilding Corporate America

America restoration of faith in Corporate America will require change and action, commitment and vigilance, time and patience. It must happen and now is the time to pick up the pace.

These words summarize what Americans really want most in from their employers:

  • Change in the way things are run in the workplace
  • Action rather then just words.
  • Commitment to actually get it done
  • Vigilance to ensure that old ways never return
  • Time to adjust to the economic transformation

Can’t get no Satisfaction?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

“Conceit is bragging about yourself. Confidence means you believe you can get the job done.”
-Johnny Unitas

I Can’t Get No Satisfaction (for all you children of the 1960s this isn’t about the Rolling Stones). Americans really want to work, remember the quote from Oscar Wilde ‘The best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without one’

The truth is that Americans aren’t really looking for help; they’re looking for guidance or leadership to get them moving forward. We’re basically hard working as well as, smart working people who want to provide for themselves. We know there’s a reward with that can do attitude. Whether you work at a job or are running a small business or a fortune 100 corporation there is the motivation to succeed in America through capitalism.

Truths to live by whether you’re have a job or running a business. Better yet, indicators of employee satisfaction/dissatisfaction.

  1. Do I have a job or a career – Motivate me please with respect and feedback about the results of my work along with the rewards.
  2. Am I building a career or reputation in my chosen field?
  3. Do I respect what the company does or in the case of you self-employed individuals, what I do for my customers.
  4. Do I have some control over my role or responsibilities?
  5. Are the decisions being made at my place of work or my decisions in the case of being self employed being made with a level of reliability, consistency and predictability?
  6. Will I still be working here or running this business three years from now?

Thanks for letting me provide you with something to think and ponder about. More to come, so come on back to my blog daily.
