This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.

Respecting The Accomplishments And Experience Of  Senior Americans.

A nation that doesn’t honor its heroes will soon find itself without heroes to honor. The single most powerful gift we can give older Americans is RESPECT. Whether they are Americans of the Greatest Generation who conquered and lived through the great depression and then went onto 5 years of war to conquer world tyranny; or the war kids (baby boomers and returning Vets) who built the foundation for a modern and prosperous America based on equal rights and justice, we owe older Americans a world of gratitude. Even in this deep recession, this country provides more opportunity for success than our Grandparents could have imagined. It is by their labor that the foundations for our success were laid. It is their dreams that we must remember to embrace, live out and enjoy.

We should welcome retirees back to the workforce if that’s what they want and need. Strangely, Corporate America would rather hire the least business-savvy and least-experienced demographic. So what if these older Americans are working because their promise of retirement was broken? They’ll be every bit as motivated as someone half their age—and a lot more disciplined and dependable. Plus they’ll have twice the experience. This type of experience in the seniors can be used effectively in the work place to mentor the younger less experienced individuals as well as provide and increase the bottom line to businesses.
